The 21st Partnership Meeting took place on the sidelines of the COP in Marrakech on 13 November 2016. Participants from various countries, think tanks and implementing organisations discussed two topics: guidance for accounting of (I)NDCs and MPGs for transparency of support.
Tribute to carbon neutral organizations under Costa Rica’s carbon neutrality country program
In 2012 Costa Rica created the Carbon Neutral Country Program to encourage organizations to measure, report, reduce, remove and offset the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions generated by their activities and thereby contribute to the Carbon Neutrality goal of Costa Rica. On 12th December 2016 almost 80 organisations from various sectors were honored for their efforts to become or maintain carbon neutral under the national program.
Cluster Francophone Regional Workshop: discussions on financing strategies and policies for mitigation actions in NDCs (6-8 December in Casablanca, Morocco)
On 6-8 December, the “Cluster Francophone” of the International Partnership on Mitigation and MRV organized a regional workshop in Casablanca (Morocco) with 74 participants from 18 countries.
NAMAs in the context of NDC implementation – online course has been updated
Following the Paris Agreement, the topic of NAMA implementation in the context of NDCs has been the focus of many discussions in the climate community. Accordingly, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has updated its online course, which acts as an introductory guide through the NAMA development process.

The Partnership in Marrakech
As in previous years, the International Partnership on Mitigation and MRV was present at the negotiations and facilitated discussions and the exchange of experiences on transparency related issues during a side event of the COP22.
Webinar on BUR Process Guidance Tool available online now
The BUR Process Guidance Tool has been developed to support countries in the process of preparing a Biennal Update Report and undergoing the International Consultation and Analysis. The webinar presents the “six step” application of the tool and provides hands on experiences from users.
Annual Partnership Retreat: discussions on NDCs and transparency (31 August - 7 September, Cape Town, South Africa)
From 31 August to 7 September 2016, 32 participants from 22 countries, both developing and developed, as well as representatives from the UNFCCC secretariat, science and implementing organisations, came together in Cape Town to discuss about the topic ‘From MRV to an enhanced transparency framework in the context of NDC implementation’.
Countries from Asia and Pacific discuss progress on NDC implementation
From 26 to 27 July 2016 the third Regional Workshop of the International Partnership on Mitigation and MRV took place in Vinh Phuc, Viet Nam. It focused on ‘Unpacking (I)NDCs – identifying, prioritising, planning and implementing mitigation and adaptation measures’.
