Free Templates for Data Collection and Reporting in Transport

Transparency builds trust and is therefore the backbone of the Paris Agreement. This has been formalized under the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) adopted at COP24 in Katowice. Under the ETF, member countries of the Paris Agreement have to report on their national greenhouse gas emissions as well as on climate actions.

Many of our partner countries are still developing their national transparency frameworks; including in the transport sector.

The GIZ project Advancing Transport Climate Strategies (TraCS) has now published an Excel template for data collection that fulfills the following reporting requirements:

  1. Transport data required for GHG emissions calculations as input to GHG inventories;
  2. Requirements to be expected under the “transparency rulebook” of the ETF;
  3. The current common tabular format (CTF) required for Annex I Parties to the UNFCCC;
  4. Reporting of information on financial support received by developing country parties under Article 9 of the Paris Agreement and
  5. Reporting of progress for Kenya’s National Climate Change Action Plan (NCCAP).

While developed specifically for Kenyan counterparts, the template is open and can be easily applied and/or adapted for use in other countries. Most of the data inputs are generic.

The template was developed together with Ricardo Energy & Environment and is available here.

A tutorial on how to use the template can be found here

The TraCS project is financed by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) through the International Climate Initiative (IKI).
