2024 CASTT Programme [Seoul, Republic of Korea]
Training Tomorrow’s Climate Champions: Inside the 2024 CASTT Programme
Climate transparency is becoming increasingly critical with the entering into full force of the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) this year. The annual Climate Action and Support Transparency Training (CASTT) Programme seeks to equip experts from the Global South with essential skills in greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting. The programme is organized by UNFCCC in collaboration with the Greenhouse Gas Inventory & Research Center of Korea (GIR). As a South-South cooperation it responds to the training needs of countries in the Global South in the measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) arrangements under the ETF of the Paris Agreement.
Held from August 19th to September 6th, this year’s intensive three-week programme included sessions on UNFCCC reporting requirements, GHG inventory compilation, and sector specific GHG estimation methodologies. Participants engaged in hands-on exercises and capped off the experience by joining the 15th International Greenhouse Gases Conference as panelists, showcasing their learnings.
The Partnership on Transparency in the Paris Agreement (PATPA) supported the CASTT Programme through the expertise of Olia Glade from the Greenhouse Gas Management Institute (GHG-MI).
