Side-Event of the Cluster Francophone at COP21

The Cluster Francophone of the International Partnership on Mitigation and MRV organized a COP side-event on Monday, November 30 at the EU Pavilion. The event aimed at presenting the past activities and achievements of the Cluster and initiated a reflection on its future activities. It was jointly organized by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB), the French Ministry of Environment, the Belgian Ministry of Environment, the Swiss Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communication, with the support of the Centre Interprofessionnel Technique d’Etudes de la Pollution Atmosphérique (CITEPA) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.

The Cluster Francophone of the International Partnership on Mitigation and MRV was established following a workshop in Tunisia in December 2013. The approach adopted is to provide a platform for sharing of experience, peer-to-peer learning, and capacity building  for experts from Annex-1 and Non-Annex-1- francophone countries, through workshops and webinars. Activities and topics are selected according to the needs expressed by the members of the Cluster. The Cluster contributed to the capacity building of experts regarding MRV systems, NAMAs and INDC.

During the side-event the participants expressed an interest to cluster activities and proposed lines of action such as the creation of a continuous network for sharing experiences, the establishment of thematic 'sub-groups', etc. The reflection will continue within the Cluster in order to define the focus of the activities on the basis of the Paris Agreement, and an agenda for the year 2016. The next Regional Workshop is planned to take place in Togo.
