When Thuso Tserane first joined a PATPA workshop in 2024, the Biennial Transparency Report (BTR) process was still new territory for him. As Project Coordinator at South Africa’s Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, he was looking for a clearer understanding of what the Enhanced Transparency Framework requires and how countries can meet those requirements in practice.

When Lucia Agatiba Agbango attended her first PATPA event in 2024, she was still new to her role as Assistant Programme Officer at Ghana’s Environmental Protection Agency. “I had very little knowledge,” Lucia recalls. “During the peer-to-peer learning sessions, people would come and say, ‘Ghana has advanced a lot in transparency – can you share your experiences?’ At the time, I felt I did not have much to contribute.”

George works for the department of Climate Change of the Ministry of Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment in the Seychelles. The PATPA workshops helped him push the topic of transparency in the Seychelles and become part of a valuable expert network.

Ratnasari W. negotiates on the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) for Indonesia and strives to improve the country’s greenhouse gas inventory. Visiting the PATPA Annual Partnership Retreat in Lebanon helped her to get a deep understanding of the most complex issues of transparency – and to really feel at home in the international community of negotiators.

Do Étienne is the National UNFCCC Focal Point for Burkina Faso and in the coordination team of the National Communications. The PATPA network gave him in-depth access to expert knowledge – enabling him to become an expert himself.
