Webinar: The Paris Agreement and the Ambition We Need
The Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES) convened a panel discussion on the Paris Agreement and the need for enhanced global ambition and action. Please find the link to the recording of the webinar below.
As we approach COP27, a critical moment in building the political momentum needed to achieve the long-term goals of the Paris Agreement, questions are emerging as to the potential efficacy of its ambition mechanism, such as:
- How can the mechanism, including the global stocktake (GST), generate clear signals and options that facilitate enhanced action and implementation at multiple levels, in particular the national level?
- How can the mechanism generate enhanced action by non-Parties and various forms of international cooperative initiatives, as well as hold them more accountable?
- Is the mechanism, which is based on a five-year cycle, fit for the purpose to respond to the urgency and catalyze the stringent action indicated in the latest reports of the IPCC?
Speakers:
Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Environment, Canada
Aminath Shauna, Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology, Maldives
Rachel Kyte, Dean of the Fletcher School
Andrea Meza, Deputy Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification
